Austin Urban Technology Movement invites you to improve your interview skills through Mock Interview sessions with Microsoft leaders.

Hola and Hello,

Please allow me to tell you why Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTM) represents a precious opportunity to me. I am chief operating officer of a values-based transformative tech startup also known as AUTM.

I start my days knowing I can uplift families and communities by providing increased income and unfettered growth opportunities for people marginalized by the status quo. Allow me to focus your attention on the hope represented by each of our AUTMites (our program participants) and other members of our AUTM community. They all have entrusted a piece of their lives with us. They all are willing to step out of their comfort zones to learn, trust, grow, create, achieve, and help themselves build a better future in the tech industry. They are a groundswell of hope for a more inclusive future, despite the industry’s glaring shortcomings.

We have AUTMites spread across the globe united in this movement – from coast to coast and as far away as Indonesia and Nigeria. Also united by AUTM in solidarity are employers, institutions, government entities, and other organizations allied to help our AUTMites advance. AUTM has extended a precious promise to fight for resources – stipends, devices, internet, wrap-around services, jobs – and increased opportunity for underserved groups. I stand ready to use my voice, my sweat, my knowledge to agitate for systemic improvement.

If I do my day-to-day chief operating officer duties properly, I create time for and am immediately rewarded by the fruits of direct service moments to improve communities hungry for advancement. In solidarity, Clifford Dukes Chief Operating Officer

¡El Token! Snickerdoodle Labs plans new Hispanic-themed NFT sale

“If everything goes as planned, we view companies like Facebook and Google as peers,” said company CEO and co-founder Jonathan Padilla.

A new blockchain technology company will offer a series of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to launch its platform, which will eventually include a new cryptocurrency, the company’s CEO told Capital.com.

Snickerdoodle Labs is launching a series of Latinx and Hispanic-American themed NFTs based on the popular Mexican game of chance, Loteria. The inaugural NFT collection will consist of 54 different digital images, based on popular Hispanic public figures, as well as cultural themes within the Latinx community.

One of the NFTs, titled La Jueza (Spanish for the judge), bears a striking resemblance to US Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayer, the first Hispanic-American appointed the highest court in the US.

Keep Austin Diverse: Reshaping Austin’s political boundaries

Austin is reshaping its city council boundaries — and the redistricting commission is hosting public forums to get input. Why it matters: Austin’s population is larger and more diverse than it was when districts were first drawn in 2013. Redistricting changes how Austinites are represented in the city council — including their political clout and the makeup of the council itself.

Austin’s population grew by 21% (!) between 2010 and 2020, per new Census data. Yes, but: Even as the city is more diverse, its percentage of Black residents has fallen and grown more diffuse, challenging map makers to create a district with a decisive mass of Black voters. What they're saying: “We’re trying to give the possible opportunity for a person of color to elect a representative of their choice,” Christina Liu Puentes, chair of the redistricting commission, tells Axios.

Quantum Computing: Transformational Capability

November 2, 2021, 6:00 pm CDT | Event Type: Conversation, Hybrid

Computing has become pervasive in our lives, with microprocessors of many types, scales, and characteristics powering everything from home devices to high-performance computing systems, from digital sensors to data centers, from cars to cloud computing services. Persistent exponential advances in microprocessors and semiconductor technologies present more performance at less cost and lower power consumption annually. However, there are important applications in healthcare, energy, environment, security, and more for which the annual increases in microprocessors remain woefully insufficient. Researchers, technology companies, government agencies, and others around the world are eager to discover and develop new methods of computing that can offer orders of magnitude greater performance for these societally important applications--and the leading candidate is now quantum computing. Join us in-person or on Zoom for this great conversation!
