Hello and Hola!

Here’s Why the Austin Tech Industry Has Thrived Since the 1950s
It’s no secret that Austin’s made a name for itself as a tech hub. Decades ago, companies like Texas Instruments and Dell set up shop here, partly to attract top talent with the region’s high quality of life and lovely (most of the time) weather. In more recent years, bigger fish have moved into the capital city, such as Indeed, Google, and Elon Musk’s bevy of companies, including The Boring Company and Tesla.
New AI System Helps Central Texas First Responders Detect Wildfires as They Happen
Twenty-six cameras will use a combination of 360-degree technology and AI to detect smoke and determine where a fire is happening. The system will then send that information to first responders in real-time.
"This is an important step for the safety of our community and the reliability of our electric system," said Chris Vetromile, Austin Energy's wildfire program manager. "With climate change driving hotter, drier summers, this AI-powered detection system allows us to respond faster and more effectively to wildfires, safeguarding our community and supporting more reliable service."
Hotel Key Cards are Being Replaced by Digital Options Like Apple, Google Wallets
Many hotel chains are racing to replace the plastic room key with digital options, including Apple Wallet and Google Wallet apps. Plastic hotel key cards have had a rough few years. During the pandemic, touch was taboo, so touchless trends accelerated and cybersecurity concerns have mounted around hotel key technology. Earlier this year, researchers found a vulnerability in plastic hotel keys that could render up to three million keys easy prey for hackers and take years to fix.
