AUTMHQ UPDATE
Hello and Hola!
We are thrilled to share some exciting news from City Hall! Last Wednesday, a coalition of 41 community organizations, including AUTMHQ, released the annual Community Investment Budget proposal. This initiative calls for the city of Austin to prioritize critical funding for housing, health, and safety in the upcoming 2025 fiscal year budget.
Key Highlights of the Proposal:
Childcare and Rental Assistance: Reducing waitlists and ensuring access for those in need.
Workforce Development: Supporting marginalized communities with career opportunities.
Immigration Legal Services: Providing vital support for low-income families.
Early Childhood Education: Investing in our youngest residents.
Arts Programs in East Austin: Fostering cultural and artistic expression.
Infrastructure Repairs: Ensuring safe and well-maintained public spaces.
"This proposal has emerged from a months-long collaboration among the undersigned organizations," said Kathy Mitchell, Senior Advisor to Equity Action. "These items are the ones that dozens of community organizations agree should be prioritized by the City Manager and Council in the upcoming budget process. They can absolutely be funded if they are made a priority by our new manager and elected leaders."
The total proposed investment is $5.2 million, or 5% of the city's general fund, and focuses on equity and sustainability to create a better future for all Austinites.
We are proud to stand with our partners in advocating for these essential investments and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on our community.
